Article, about the thing most collections leave out
A real article on why a control page matters, marked up as Article with a named author and dated revisions.
The subject of this specimen is real: it is an article about this lab, written for this lab. The author is the site itself, which is stated plainly in the markup rather than borrowing a person’s name to look more credible.
The page nobody publishes
Almost every write-up of a structured-data experiment shares a shape. Someone adds markup, waits, and reports what happened. The missing piece is always the same: a page that did not get the markup, published at the same time, on the same site, under the same conditions.
Without it, the report is a story. Traffic went up, markup was added, and the two facts sit next to each other with nothing connecting them but the order they are written in.
Why it is left out
Because it costs something. A control page is a page you deliberately handicap, on a site you want to do well. On a client site that is a hard conversation, and on your own site it feels like sabotage. The result is that the cheapest, most useful part of the method is the part that never survives contact with a real business.
A lab with nothing to lose can carry that cost without flinching. That is most of what this domain is for.
What a control does not do
It does not turn a small sample into a large one. Two pages on a domain nobody links to will not settle an argument about the whole web, and nothing published here should be read as though it does. What a control gives you is narrower and more honest: a way to tell the difference between an effect and a coincidence, on this site, under these conditions, on these dates.
That is a smaller claim than most structured-data content makes. It is also one that survives being checked.
